Did you know there was such a thing as pony camp? I sure didn't!
As part of our homeschooling curriculum we have learning about horses and what a great way to wrap up the unit than by participating for a day at a stable, partaking in a pony camp. The kids learned to groom ponies, see how a horse shoe is put on a horse, learn how to put on the tackle on the horse and even ride a pony! It was so much fun!
Getting ready to leave... (notice the pony shirt!)
The excitement builds as we ride the NYC subway to get there...
Here we are!
Grooming the ponies with brushes
We fell in love with "s'more" the pony...
You mean I have to clean this???
Learning about the different parts of a horse
To groom the ponies they used 3 kinds of brushes. One to loosen the dirt, one to brush it out and one to pick the rocks and grime out of the horses hooves.
Riding "fudge" the pony
giving "fudge" a thank you kiss...
What a great day we had!!!
